The Don Boreham Collection

Don Boreham pioneered narrow gauge modelling over 7 decades and is regarded as the father of 16mm narrow gauge modelling. His book on the subject is still acknowledged as the bible and his influence was immense.

He was also instrumental in promoting research into narrow gauge history which now expresses itself through the wonderful full-scale restorations and replicas that grace particularly the north Wales lines. Apart from that he was secretary of the London based Model Railway Club for many years and professionally Chief Registrar at Caxton Hall. Fluent in 7 languages he operated in the SOE during WW2.

Don was always keen that his collection of 16mm locos remained intact and consequently bequeathed them to CHMRC's Francis Gomme on the understanding that he respected that wish. Since his passing in 1999 it has been a real honour to display these at narrow gauge events across the country. We produced this exhibition diorama to present these models and are continually astonished at the interest they still attract, and the depth of Don's influence across the hobby.
